Lumbering

Vision - A wintry picture of a logging camp nestled in the midst of the
forest. See the smoke from the chimneys gently curling into the frosty air.
Notice the rosy-cheeked lumberjacks with their toques, checkered shirts and axe
in hand. Listen to the chain saw rasp and growl as it chews through a tree
trunk. There is a call of " TIMBER." The tree gives out a squeak
and groan as it begins falling. There is a rushing sound and crashing as it
strikes obstacles. With a violent THUMP it hits the snow covered
ground. Old fashioned image by Ray Wegner.

Oil Drilling Rig in Aldersyde, Alberta
Working Rig

Images - The picture is of the tall drilling rig with its roaring engines.
Also a picture of the tar sands with giant digging machines. Trucks loaded with
sticky sand. The thought of making quick bucks on the rigs, and living it up.
Included in this scene is the typical boom and bust business cycle. When oil
prices are high people flock into the region from everywhere. Prices for land
are driven sky high. Immigrants or citizens are encouraged to buy, buy, buy. It
seems you can't go wrong. Wages are high and prosperity seems assured. So the
people buy. Then the bottom falls out of the market and the boom becomes a big
bust. Lots of citizens lose their shirts or get stuck with a lifetime
mortgage. Losing your job in this situation is a disaster. Perception
by Ray Wegner that old cynic.
Gas Plant

Production of sulphur - bottom picture. Where does most of the sulphur
produced in Canada come from ? Almost 90 per cent of sulphur
produced in Canada comes from sour gas processing.

Vancouver Wharves are located on the north shore of the Port’s inner
harbour, and offers a variety of inbound and outbound services for bulk material
including sulphur - as shown in this picture below.

Tourism (tour buses at Calgary Stampede)
Image - The traditional picture is of an American tourist driving a big
car, and flashing a thick wad of money. See the restaurants fawning over him.
This is done to encourage the vacationer to spend, spend, spend. People are
lolling around in the hot sun enjoying themselves. Listen to the students
talking about the possibilities of employment at one of the resorts. The scenic
national parks of Jasper and Banff come to mind. Here is a vision of a tourist
trap. Image by Ray Wegner
