Barley is the main  feed for hogs and also used as feed  for cattle and poultry.

Human consumption - malt barley is used in the brewing of beer; also used in the making of ice cream, chocolates and infant formulas; pot barley is used in soups; pearl barley in puddings and deserts; cereals; noodles, and it is milled into flour as well. Barley has many uses.

Barley is an early maturing crop, and is therefore very adapted to the short Canadian growing season

Rye is distilled into alcohol. Rye Whiskey is made from about 50% rye. 

It is also milled into flour and used in pumpernickel breads. It is also used as animal feed.
